The headless horseman theory thingy was correct. Although we were wrong in some points, we still got it.
The Apathy (Grimm in RWBY and the so called Headless Horseman in our theory) is a grimm who sucks out your will to move forward and makes you an emotionless barbie doll. Plus it’s freaking scary.
It sucks out your determination, hence Blake saying “It’s fine..” with a nonchalant face when the Apathies are just probably 3 feet away from her.
An apathy has to screech to unleash it’s power, hence the numerous screeching we heard in this episode and how many times Team RWBY plus Ms. Calavera fell to the ground and got drained of their energy. I’m guessing it affects the one who’s the nearest to it the most, (Like Blake, she was at the back and therefore the nearest.)
Also Drunkle Qrow, we all know that these Grimms were locked in the cellar and Qrow was always there getting alchohol to chug down. Maybe that’s why he was bummer than usual, maybe it’s not just because of the issue with Ozma/Ozpin, just maybe though but we can actually consider the possibility. Maybe he was not aware of the grimm around him and the effect it’s been giving to him, hence his shocked face when he saw the grimm.
When Weiss was throwing the bottles of alchohol to start a fire Qrow got botheted because he didn’t want to waste it. He was drowning his sorrows through it and having it thrown away got him mad.
“Hey.. HEY! WHAT ARE YOU DOING!?”
He was already drunk.. Otherwise he wouldn’t shout and push Ruby when she was helping him.
It seems that even without hearing the screeches of the Apathy you will still get affected by it’s power just by simply being in the presence of their kind.
Hence the journal application of the person who lived there (i didn’t get his name).
“I’m tired.” was something the people in presence of the Apathy would always say. We heard Yang, Weiss, Blake and almost all of them say it. It drains your energy slowly, but you won’t notice it and you’d only think that you didn’t get enough sleep. “Can we just go back to bed?” -Oscar.
“The Apathy, they’re not strong or.. ferocious.. They drain your will to go on.” -Ms. Calavera
Analyze her words. The Apathy are not strong or ferocious, they’re not that powerful by physical means, they’re not like the other grimms Team RWBY have encountered like the Beowolves and such.
They drain your will to go on. Even though it’s slow, slightly weak.. They have the power to drain your energy and capture you.
Being in their presence, means having your energy and life slightly drained out. We see it’s effects on WBY when they gave up and even went against Ruby and told her to just throw the relic in the well. They lost their will to keep moving forward and to take it to Atlas. But we also saw that when they get hit for a bit they would falter for a bit and their effects on Team RWBY also withered away, until they screeched again. Also when they got hit by Ruby’s power and it made Blake snap out of her “It’s fine…” trance.
The Apathy is so powerful because they have the power to manipulate your mind into giving up. Not only your mind but also your body, being in direct contact with it and hearing it’s screech will weaken your body a bunch to the point where you can’t even stand.
We know the Team RWBY has gone to many battles where they got hit and fall but they’d always stand up and win anyways. But their encounter with the Apathy led me to believe that the Apathy are actually one heck of a really powerful and strong grimm that should be feared by all. It is weak when it comes to physical, but it’s even powerful than the other grimm if you think about it.
Now let’s move on from the grimm and move to Ms. Calavera.
She said it, she once HAD silver eyes. Our remaining question or questions here is.. How did she became blind with color-blind robotic eyes. That single question will lead to a bunch of other questions for sure.
We now know that the Silver Eyes power is driven by love. It can be activated by it.
“You got family? Friends?”
“Think about the people who love you. Focus, on the thought of them.. The way they make you feel.”
This is why Ruby’s eye powers activated when Pyrrha got shot, Weiss got stabbed, and when Blake almost got shredded to pieces. She loves them, and they love her back, that connection is what powers the Silver Eyes.
And she got it to activate on purpose for the first time too. When she did what Maria said, she focused on the people who she loves and vice versa (aka Yang, Blake, and Weiss who were currently struggling). She used love to save them all (a pretty cheesy but true and powerful line am i right?)
“Life is beautiful. It is precious.. And it MUST be protected.”
“Must be protected” means that the Silver eyed warriors were truly the ones who protected people from the Grimms.
And with those magic words the entire group of the grimm dispersed when Ruby used her powers.
Now moving on to another topic. (im trying to cover this episode from different perspectives)
Let’s move to Yang.
She’s the personification of Stregth. Meaning she’s determined, and she’s filling with determination when it comes to the things she loves. And we know that’s true. We saw how determined she was to save Blake back then when Adam was assaulting her, we also saw how determined she was to get to Ruby that she ignored the fact that she has finally found her mother after her whole life of searching.
And even to this episode we could still see her determinaton. Ignoring the fact that she also got overpowered by the grimm’s magic to make her lose her determination.. She was still full of it, or at least she still has some of it.
When they were at the ladder, with Weiss desperately trying to open the cellar door and Ruby, Blake, and Maria near the Apathy.. When the Apathy screeched, they all fell to the ground.. AGAIN! But Yang’s determination still give her a bit strength to scream and try and TRY to get to the door.
Even though she was losing strength, she still used her energy to try and reach out (even knowing she can’t) and shout “No!” numerous times.
Or we can put it to simple and just say that RT wanted it to look dramatic and it was just a coincidence 😂
But still, we can see that Yang is a very determined and loving person. She loves her team and her sister the most. She loves her family the most (maybe excluding Raven but idk).
When Ruby screamed when she first encountered the Apathy, WBY snapped out of their trance and Yang’s face was filled with concern and worry.
So anyway, that’s that.
I didn’t see anymore or.. I can explain anymore. But I’ll still point out the things I noticed.
> Yang hesitated before grabbing Blake’s hand
> Blake looking shocked. And it’s not just the shock like ‘OMG SOMETHING TOUCHED MY HAND’ kind of shock, it was the shock that Yang held her hand despite of what happened the day before. And I am certainly loving the improvement of their relationship
