As someone who does ceramics, that twisted, broken up fork would make an excellent tool for slipping and scoring, or maybe even just texturing. It would make a super cute bug print, or make easy, perfectly spaced lines at a farther difference than a typical fork. It can be used for creating, rather than just feeding some giant machine. Just because it wouldn’t be particularly good at being used as it is expected to be used, which is not to say that a creative person couldn’t find a way to make it work, does not make it useless. In the right hands, even the most seemingly “useless” object can be functional, or even groundbreaking in the right hands.
Also, people aren’t objects, and you dont need to be able to “use” them in order for them to exist.
“his alcoholism put him and everyone in danger he’s supposed to be the responsible adult yet has been throwing pissy fits since finding out the truth I’m getting real sick of his shit personally”
Gee it’s almost like Qrow’s undergoing a character arc where he;
Finally realizes how toxic his dependency on alcohol is and how it’s making even Ruby short-tempered at him, to say nothing of how it meant he couldn’t help when his nieces nearly died to the Apathy.
Regresses to the point of being a non-functioning alcoholic before being literally pulled from the brink- remember he was pissed at Weiss wasting the booze until he saw the Apathy and finally shook himself out of his stupor.
Starts to get over the not-insignificant realization that the man he saw as a surrogate father was basically making up a plan as he went along and has been keeping so many secrets close to the chest it’s hard to tell when he’s actually telling the truth anymore.
Also realizes as a consequence that Raven was right all along and that Salem was unbeatable, meaning he wasted the entire back half of his life on an unbeatable foe and that all his Huntsmen friends effectively died for nothing.
Qrow has been fighting the longest of the non-Wizard heroes right now and over the course of one horrifically long day, he’s had the wind taken from his sails multiple times thanks to Oz’s past lies and half-truths broiling to the surface, and once the party reached Brunswick tried to fall back to what he had tricked himself into thinking was his one solace- alcohol. But once it made him effectively invalid and made it so he was useless when his wards were nearly dying just feet away and him unable to do anything, it finally made him realize that his alcoholism was a crutch.
Qrow has seen a lot of shit and has developed a lot of bad coping mechanisms to help him sleep at night.
Will Qrow stop drinking entirely? Perhaps not, but I wouldn’t be surprised if down the line, Qrow tosses his flask away and we get a shot similar to the end of the Adam short, barring that Qrow’s more confident as he leaves his vices behind.
tldr, Qrow’s had good reasons for falling into his alcoholism as far as he did, you’re just salty that he’s being depicted realistically now.
(also can I just say as someone with alcoholic family members it’s very clear that some of the writers have some too and knew exactly how to write Qrow as a consequence?)
But I have a hunch that Qrow being pulled down by those Grimm arms in the intro is a symbol of his alcoholism and it’ll be addressed this volume.
I like that idea, I hope I’m right.
In the opening..isnt ruby attacked by those same arms?
Most likely symbolizing she’s the only one that can pull him through the recovery stages.
98% positive they are the same arms so if they are then yeah that’s my theory.
Well they are attacking her…not her attacking them..I think..his alcoholism is finally addressed this season and how it affects her..cause that cant be easy on her..I mean we only know ruby as this mostly positive person…we’ve only really seen her break down and be upset after she was reunited with yang..considering with what happened to penny and pyrra..I feel like she tends to bottle stuff up..so I feel like this season ruby is gonna open up alot..and weiss is gonna be the one there for her alot of the way..in the opening she is literally helping ruby up…
I thought that as well, it could serve as a dual meaning for both sides of the spectrum since they are so close but I know neither of them have ever had it easy.
I really hope this is explored so I can finally say I predicted something right haha.
Saaaame…I just felt like that was a theory…I mean if you look at her expression during that part..,its almost like she’s fighting the truth of it…she doesn’t want to face it so she tries to get away from it to deny it….while…qrow literally falls back into it like its normal…
Right? It really makes me scared for Ruby because she might have more pent up emotional trauma than we’ve ever been led to believe prior to this volume.
I feel so bad for her honestly….
Me too..but like..its all gonna come out at once…and I just came up with a theory for that part of the opening…what if qrow is somewhat responsible for ruby’s mother death…and he drinks because of it…and that’s what is affecting ruby somehow…I can’t think of any details tho..
I have been saying that since volume 3, and that’s the primary reason he drinks because if you look when he shows Yang the photo of STRQ, there’s a glass stain on the photo and a stain from what appears to be years.
He probably blames himself for everything that happened to STRQ
I remember that scene too..that makes alot of sense…almost too much sense..I hope we end up right but at the same time now..lol..I hope it gets resolved by the end of the season
If we called it, I will seek you out if you’re going to RTX next year so we can high five! Haha.
Ill be there and I will give you the biggest high five of your life…but we have to figure out how to find each other lol
I’m sure we will find a way lol
@destinedhellfire. Hey hey hey hey…the new episode…the waterway looks familiar to the part in the opening we were talking about..but..the grimm are different..the apathy..they dont reach out..theres a chance our theory is correct the way ruby is reacting to her uncle and the way he drinks..and how they found him,in that room full of alcohol after they fought the apathy abd the way he reacted after seeing them…I think the next few episodes…are gonna be ruby finally saying something…and qrow is gonna tell ruby why he drinks and its gonna, have to do with the apathy..and yeah…just wanted to tell you and see what you thought
I think that Weiss reaction to the Grimm, setting them on fire with the wine, was so strong because by feeling that deep utter depression, it made her realize what her Mom must be feeling to drink like Qrow was. In a way, she was taking the power back, by destroying the booze and the Apathy, so that it could never hurt those she loves again.
The saddest thing to realize about the mantra Maria repeats to Ruby is just how close it is to Ruby’s stated motivations for becoming a huntress. They ring of a lesson Summer never got to finish teaching. Words that Ruby was taught to engrain in her heart but never had the chance to learn why.
(As an aside, I wonder if Maria knew her mother and if it will mean we finally get to see what shattered team STRQ?)
(As an aside to the aside, did Ruby ever introduce herself to Maria? I wonder if things could have been simplified by a “Hi, I’m Ruby Rose.” “Any relation to Summer Rose?” “She was my mother.”)
