The saddest thing to realize about the mantra Maria repeats to Ruby is just how close it is to Ruby’s stated motivations for becoming a huntress. They ring of a lesson Summer never got to finish teaching. Words that Ruby was taught to engrain in her heart but never had the chance to learn why.
(As an aside, I wonder if Maria knew her mother and if it will mean we finally get to see what shattered team STRQ?)
(As an aside to the aside, did Ruby ever introduce herself to Maria? I wonder if things could have been simplified by a “Hi, I’m Ruby Rose.” “Any relation to Summer Rose?” “She was my mother.”)
