I feel like talking about Nora/Hiiro for a bit, because I haven’t seen much conversation about her in this fandom.

I know a lot of people love to hate Nora–and with good reason, as she is a very nasty character–but I also think she is very interesting because we don’t know much about her.

What we do know:

-She is a shinki

-However, she was not originally a human and has no moral compass to direct her master(s)

-Even though she is a shinki, she and Yato (a god) share the same “Father”

-She used to be Yato’s shinki, and she and he used to kill people together to make “Father” happy. She also seems to enjoy killing and is obviously more supportive of “Father” than Yato is.

-She hasn’t really been seen using any of the shinki abilities, other than telling the akayashi under “Father’s” control what to do. Although, I admit that this doesn’t mean she can’t perform those abilities. Maybe she just prefers not to?

-She wants Yato to become an evil god again, but she seems to have even bigger plans that we don’t know of yet. Whether those plans are the same as “Father’s”, we will find out as the manga progresses

-She finds Hiyori a hindrance to Yato becoming an evil god again

-She is a stray

-She is also connected to Ebisu

-(Probably other things I missed)

…Thoughts? Any ideas/headcanons about her past or what might happen with her in future chapters? I wanna know more about her, though I know at this point she is purposely a mysterious character.

I kinda have a head canon that she’s a Kappa (Water spirit.)

“It was believed that, if one was confronted with a kappa, there were a few means of escape. Kappa are obsessed with politeness, so if a person makes a deep bow, it return the gesture, the water in the plate on its head spills out and it is rendered unable to leave the bowing position until the plate is refilled with water from the river in which it lives. If a person refills it, the kappa will serve that person for all eternity. A similar weakness of the kappa involves its arms, which can easily be pulled from its body. If an arm is detached, the kappa will perform favors or share knowledge in exchange for its return.”

Obviously, the first option is more plausible, as Mizuchi isn’t missing an arm.

Maybe what we see Mizuchi as, isn’t very polite. But if you take into consideration of the fact that she rarely gets angry, (or that she never really expresses emotions period, really) then…it kinda makes sense, right?

But she does show a devout loyalty to Father, and her…other…form does resemble that of a Kappa.

The mouth shape in particular, along with the obvious scaling. The Kappa on the left is an illustrated depiction, (and some can have tails like that of a merperson.) so of course there are differences–but there are plenty of points leading to this, as well. Mainly because Mizuchi can always be found near water. They take a roughly humanoid shape and are about the size of children.

Of course this is an undeveloped theory at best and there are a ton of holes, but there are many similarities that do a pretty good job of pointing towards…well, that.

Another detail that sort of points toward your theory is that Mizuchi seems to be able to control water, especially in her weapon form. It happened more in the anime, so it might not be canon, but even in the manga her weapon form seems to be able to turn into water. Which…other shinki haven’t been seen doing. I feel like that highlights how she’s different from most of the shinki, who were originally human while she wasn’t. Plus, she is very polite to “Father” even if she isn’t to anyone else.

In the manga during Yato’s childhood, they are seen killing people by using Hiiro to drown them. She definitely has water-related abilities.

She also surrounds Yato with a protective bubble of water when they go in the underworld.

Adding onto this from the wiki, “As water monsters, kappa have been blamed for drownings, and are often said to try to lure people into water and pull them in with their great skill at wrestling.”

Drowning people. So it’s at least plausible, right?
